"My Friend" - was a Winner

 for Di's Scrapbooks Challenge

I was thrilled with this win.  Our challenge was to create a page design using the kit supplied which contained Kraft paper, white cardstock, chipboard words "My Friend", two chipboard butterflies, hessian ribbon and chipboard corner embellishments. 

My inspiration came from family history as I used photos of my great great grandfather and his champion draught horse (his friend), as I am fascinated by this man's story and life.  I added a chipboard gate which I converted to a stable door, created my journalling inside a laurel shaped sign to reflect the horse's wins, made some banners and pinwheels in red and blue (the colours of champions) and disguised and trimmed my butterflies in the wheat sheath and the pinwheel cluster.

A Mother is a Special Kind of Friend

May Challenge - Di's Scrapbooks

For this challenge our kit contained  two chippie flourishes, the chippie phrase "A Mother is a Special Kind of Friend" and the chippie nine square frame.  

Of course it was easy to use photos of my daughter and granddaughters.

I added another two flourishes for the corners and trimmed them.  Some of the trimmings were then used in the flower cluster. 

On the frame, I trimmed the top three squares to give an 'L' shape to work in the flowers and tag.  The frame has been lifted up off the page by some foam giving it a 3D look. 

I have also applied a clear acetate layer to the six right and lower squares to give a 'window' look and provide protection for the three photos.  Tuelle, feathers and pearls were added for a feminine look.

Reflections

I have been taking classes to learn new scrapbook techniques for a couple of months now and I based this page on a design by my teacher, Di Garling.

It was wonderful to give it to my daughter, Leonie, for Mother's Day 2012. Both photos were taken by Leonie, making it even more special, and she edited them with an iPhone App.

Of course with the subject matter being Leonie's daughters, Chloe and Harmony, it is just so easy to do.

A Laugh is a Smile That Bursts

April Challenge - Di's Scrapbooks

This page was my entry in Di's Scrapbook Shop's April Challenge.

We were given a piece of aqua ribbon, chipboard heart and flowers, blue flowers and chippie phrase "A laugh is a smile that bursts".

With a few other bits and pieces my friend Joy made the perfect picture for this page.
